Feature Reference

This reference includes where to open each tool or panel and the basic flow for using it. Use it alongside the FAQ if you need a quick "how do I...?" recipe.

1. General UI & Keyboard Shortcuts

Keyboard Shortcuts Modal

Press ? or Shift+? to open a comprehensive overview of all available keyboard shortcuts. Accessible via Settings > Keyboard Shortcuts.

Tool Selection Shortcuts

Quickly switch between tools:

  • V: Select tool
  • P: Draw tool
  • E: Erase tool
  • C: Circle tool
  • T: Open Trigger menu
  • M: Open Move Presets
  • S: Open Settings

General Shortcuts

  • Ctrl+Z / Cmd+Z: Undo last action
  • Ctrl+Y / Cmd+Shift+Z: Redo
  • Spacebar: Play/Pause playback
  • Delete / Backspace: Delete selected items
  • Ctrl+A / Cmd+A: Select all
  • Escape: Deselect all / Close modal
  • O: Cycle through overlapping selections (points/triggers/handles)
  • L: Lock/Unlock selected items
  • H: Toggle horse visibility
  • G: Toggle grid visibility
  • F: Toggle fullscreen mode

Navigation & Workspace

Use Arrow Keys or W/A/S/D to pan the camera. Use Shift + Arrow Keys to nudge selected points. Modal panels reopen in the last position you closed them, and "Hide Horses" is disabled by default after refresh.

2. Account & Subscription

Tier System

Rideful offers three subscription tiers: Free, Standard and Pro.

Account Management

Access the Account Modal via the user menu in the top-right corner to manage your subscription, view your tier, or upgrade/downgrade. Locked features will display a tier restriction message.

3. Route Management

Create a New Route

File > New Route (Ctrl+N) opens the route setup modal. Pick a color swatch or custom hue, choose an icon from the picker, set initial gait, and confirm.

Select & Edit Route Details

Click the route's line in 3D view or the Timeline. Click the pen icon on a timeline row to update name, color, notes, or icon. You can also set a start offset (millisecond precision) or adjust the horse speed profile (Tack Stats, horse mood and breed).

Route Actions

Click the right three dots on a route for options: Duplicate, Delete, or Clear Active Route. Use Mirror and Rotate to reorient patterns, or Transform Route to smooth or straighten.

Organization & Slots

Drag and drop routes to reorder. Use the Route Slot Switcher in the top of the right sidebar to jump between independent project slots. Filter routes by tags, groups, or metadata.

Import/Export & Clear

Use File > Import Route(s) to load .json files. Select routes and use Export Route(s) to save. Edit > Clear Scene deletes all routes.

4. Drawing & Editing Routes

Drawing & Inserting Points

With Draw (P), click on the arena floor to extend a route. Hold Alt/Option and click on the line to insert a point mid-route.

Manipulating Points

Use Select (V) to drag points. Shift+Drag to box-select multiple points. Click a point to expose Bezier handles and drag them to refine curvature. Use L to lock/unlock points.

Erase Tool & Cycling

Press E to drag over route segments and erase them. When objects overlap, press O to cycle selection through route points, trigger points, and handles.

Feasibility Warnings

Overlay warnings appear for tight turns, abrupt gait transitions, or incorrect jump placements. Adjust the route to resolve them.

5. Timeline & Playback

Playback Controls

Play/Pause with Spacebar. Scrub by dragging the playhead. Adjust speed via the dropdown (0.25x - 4x). Toggle between Time Axis and Distance Axis in the header.

Timeline Management

Access Timeline > Segments to filter visible segments. Drag triggers to move them, or resize freeze triggers by dragging edges. The timeline supports millisecond precision.

Filtering & View

Use the Filter icon to sort by tags, groups, or metadata. Click the chevron button to show/hide the timeline. Double-click a route in the timeline to lock the Third-Person Camera to that horse.

6. Audio Integration

Upload & Sync

(Standard & Pro Tier) Go to Timeline > Audio Row to upload MP3, WAV, or OGG files (max 50MB). Audio plays synchronized with the route and persists locally.

7. Triggers & Special Moves

Trigger Menu

Press T to open. Choose from Gait (Walk, Trot, Canter, Gallop, Backwards), Visibility, Freeze, or Special Moves (Jump, Rear, Pivot).

Placing & Editing

Click the route line to place a trigger (it auto-snaps). Double-click a trigger to edit properties like duration or speed. Drag triggers to reposition them.

Display Modes

Configure visibility in Settings: With info, Icon only, Line only, or Hidden.

8. Move Presets

Create & Place

Press M. Select a preset (e.g., Comb, Slant, Keyhole) or create your own. Click on a route to insert it. Enable Auto Gait Trigger to automatically add the matching gait.

9. Circle Tracks

Circle Tool

Press C or Shift+C. Set radius (presets available), center point, revolutions, and direction. You can attach the circle to a route or create it as a standalone track.

10. Camera & Visualization

Camera Controls

Pan with W/A/S/D. Zoom with scroll. Rotate with right-click. Use the Camera Cube for preset views (Top, Front, Side). Double-click a timeline route for follow-cam.

Visualization Toggles

Toggle Grid, Arena Letters, Meter Points, and Horse Models via the View menu. Choose between Light, Dark, or Blossom themes in Settings.

11. Export & Sharing

Export Options

Export routes as .json or use Export Media for Images. Video export supports stylized rendering and UI toggles.

Sharing

Generate Share Link creates a standalone preview URL.

12. Tags, Groups & Metadata

Organization

Assign Tags and Groups via Edit Route. Use the Metadata Manager in settings to customize styles. Change Route Color Mode to color by Tag or Group.

13. Advanced Tools

Route Transform

Click the Magic Wand Icon in the timeline. Smooth, Straighten, Mirror, Rotate, or Scale your route. Apply to the active segment, entire route, or selection.
