Getting Started: Visualizing Your First Pattern

This tutorial will guide you through the basics of creating, editing, and viewing a complete route in Rideful.

Step 1: Create a New Route

First, we need a route to work with. Go to the menu and select File > New Route. A dialog will appear. Give your pattern a name, like "Introductory Circle", select a color, and click "Create". You will now see your new, empty route in the Timeline panel.

Step 2: Draw the Basic Path

Now let's draw. Activate the Draw Tool by pressing the P key or selecting it from the toolbar. Your cursor will change. Click four distinct points on the arena floor to form a rough square. Notice how Rideful automatically creates a curved path connecting them.

Step 3: Refine the Curves

The path is likely a bit sharp. Let's smooth it into a circle. Activate the Select Tool (V). Click on one of the points you created. You will see two handles extending from it—these are its Bezier handles.

Step 4: Add Event Triggers

A path is just a line until we add events. Let's specify the horse's gait. Select the Add Gait Trigger Tool (T). In the Properties Panel on the left, make sure "Trot" is selected. Click near the beginning of your circular path. A "Trot" trigger will appear on the route and in the timeline.

Step 5: Playback and Review

It's time to see your work in action. In the timeline at the bottom, press the main Play button or hit the Spacebar. You will see a horse model appear and follow your path.
